There’s a big controversy over Microsoft’s heavy-handed approach to coercing users to move to Windows 10 by disabling Windows Update on newer 7th-generation PCs. If you have a newer computer (built in the past 18 months), watch out because you might get slipped a Microsoft Mickey Finn. I recommend reporting any problems you might encounter. Net updates (go ahead and use the Monthly Rollup if it’s offered). All of the other updates should be fine, including Servicing stack updates, Office, MSRT, and. You may want to use wushowhide to hide any driver updates. If you want to stay on Win10 Anniversary Update and prevent Microsoft from forcing you on to Creators Update (which has plenty of bugs but fewer than I expected), follow these instructions. Windows 10įollow my tip on installing Win10 updates. With that as preamble, here are the steps I recommend. Günter Born reported a problem with the latest Malicious Software Removal Tool something is messing up the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer. There’s a new version of the much-maligned KB 3150513, which you want to avoid unless you’re planning an in-place upgrade to Win10 Creators Update soon. I undoubtedly missed a few problems, but those are the big ones.

The semester's goal for each student will be to define a direction for future work in painting. A flexible format for in-class work on personal projects will allow group interaction to coexist with individually directed work. Periodic outside assignments will extend this practice while emphasizing personal choice and expressive adjustment based on individual priorities. The course will include group exercises designed to solidify a basic understanding of drawing, the use of the medium and the principles of color. The core medium of the class will be oil paint, but this may be augmented or extended by other media. Students will be encouraged to particularize their use of the painting medium and their approach to subject and statement through color, painterly touch, format, use of materials, drawing and compositional decisions, stylistic reference and implied narrative. Overall, a goal of establishing a personal visual vocabulary of facture and image will be emphasized. The primary work of the semester will be on individually directed projects, worked on both in and out of class. This course will build on the skills established in Sophomore Painting, while broadening the students' understanding of options available to the painter. Estimated Materials Cost: $100.00 Major elective restricted to Illustration juniors and seniors open to non-majors pending seat availability and permission of instructor. The class promotes development of personal expression, strong conceptual solutions, excellent craftsmanship and good design. Additionally students will learn how to light and photograph three-dimensional work for reproduction or portfolio. Projects are structured to introduce you to a variety of materials and methods of working, including paper manipulation, box making, character design, model-making, 3D printing, and laser-cutting. The class is offered in conjunction with RISD CoWorks to promote experimentation, interdisciplinarity, and access to advanced technologies. A survey of contemporary sculpture and 3D illustration will provide plenty of conceptual, process and material exploration. In this class we will examine how objects and various sculptural strategies can be used to convey complex concepts and ideas. Whether using traditional materials or digital technologies, sculpture is enormously nuanced in what it can suggest. Games, or TV can provide those experiences just as readily as a in life interpersonal interaction, but those experiences will be more limited. While most illustrations are flat, working in three dimensions allows for the engagement of a whole new range of material and conceptual possibilities. How one socializes is based on experiences, and applying those experiences in one's own life, coupled with what they wish to achieve from said socialization. Learning to socialize is not from just doing one thing. Games are no different, they're just interactive. Young kids watch all sorts of shows that teach them how to socialize. Doesn't mean I'm playing it because I'm desperate for a date.īut, games can teach you how to socialize just as well as watching some TV show. I looked it over, and it looks like an interesting experience. It's more a "creepy dating sim" than this game is. I got that summer lesson that Bandai made because a friend gave it to me. I'll play all sorts of games because I enjoy them for different reasons. Online interactivity can be good or bad, but nothing is ever as simple as compartmentalizing people into very narrow stereotypes about why they may be doing whatever it is they're doing. But, over the years, being more active online in forums has helped me feel more comfortable socializing with others, as I've found I can have a voice and express an opinion and not be worried about how people feel about it or how it may affect my life in general. People could say I come online to escape real social activity. I still get anxious around people I don't know. I spent most of my life being pretty anti-social. Many creatures, both mythical beasts and alien beings, come through the Rifts - some of them now permanently opened - to wreak havoc. Ultimately, the PPE of billions of human beings dying nearly simultaneously, multiplied by the mystic alignments mentioned earlier, energized the ley line networks crisscrossing the globe and caused many rifts to open, both on Earth and throughout the Megaverse - while simultaneously ripping untold numbers of alien beings from their own homeworlds and alerting the Great Powers of the Megaverse of a new planet to conquer. The additional deaths in turn releases even more mystic energy in a vicious cycle. The special circumstances of Earth's mystic position in the Universe at that time (namely, a multi-planetary alignment combined with the naturally higher levels of mystic energy present during the Winter Solstice at exactly midnight) changes what would "normally" be the deaths of a few million living beings into a psychic energy flood that triggers the eruption of ley lines and triggering natural disasters across the world and also causes the return of Atlantis which raised the water levels causing even more death. Second, this golden age will be followed by an apocalyptic nuclear war that starts with a border incursion by NEMA (North American Economic Military Alliance, comprising Canada, The U.S., and Mexico) forces in South America during the year 2098. Much of the solar system will be conquered, humanity's wars will end, and harmony will reign. Humanity as a whole will get along as a majority of Earth's nations decide to stop a world war and begin to share ideas and technology freely. Rifts begins with two future-historical premises: first, that there will be a golden age of humanity with tremendous advances in science, technology, military, and society. If the PPE nearby is extremely strong the Ley Lines could be seen during the day too. Ley Lines are normally invisible, but in the magic-saturated world of Rifts Earth, they become visible at night as massive bands of blue-white energy half a mile wide, and stretching for many miles. If a ley line nexus grows very strong, the very fabric of space and time can be torn thus creating a rift, a hole in space-time leading to another place, time or a new or parallel dimension. In the Rifts game, points where ley lines intersect, called a nexus, are places of powerful magic, such as the Pyramids of Giza and Stonehenge.
Yes I can be exceptionally nerdy and lazy, but then that's why I feel at home in online communities full of exceptional people. I have a "standard" profile that's good for things like using the mouse, right and left click, TAB, Enter, CTRL, SHIFT, and ALT, scrollwheel, etc., so if I need to do something I can pause the emulator, switch gamepad profiles and go do whatever, then pull up the emulator, switch profiles back to SNES9x and keep playing without ever having to get up and get the mouse. To be even more nerdy, there's also a way to assign buttons to switch to an entirely different setup while you hold that button, so I hold the select button, and I can switch to other gamepad profiles by just hitting the square or triangle or whatever button is mapped to the profile I want. Having a mute button right on my controller is nice. What's nice is with joy2key you can also map things to the mouse and have all the ALT, CTRL and SHIFT buttons, or even media buttons, so I use the other joystick for the mouse and then map the shoulder buttons to things like save and ESC and other convenient commands within the emulator. The mapping utility isn't needed for SNES9x, but I use it to make profiles for lots of different programs and games, so I just have an SNES9x profile. That's why you see in the config only Axis-0 for right/left and Axis-1 for up/down.Yeah, I just use a Logitech wireless PS2 controller with a PS2 to USB adapter and then I use joy2key to map the gamepad buttons to keyboard commands. Think the problem is that the controller has no real D-pad with four directions, but just the 2 axes like a stick. Had to spam the mouse here to change this around, but now it works. Had the same problem with a SNES style wireless controller, attempts to set the D-pad fail, result in permanent direction trigger.Ĭonfiguring the D-pad as the left stick solved the problem. Onkel, how did you do that, in manage game->controller settings? I tried something like that but it didn't work.į***, there is way too much places and stuffs to configure gamepads in Steam, it's awful. Scott Spiral is currently designing and manufacturing a coal feeder conveying system for one of the world's largest power generation companies. "However, our vision and focus is on continuing to be leaders in both international and domestic sales and manufacturing markets, and to continue our research and development program to enhance manufacturing techniques and our product range," he adds. "We constantly find it very difficult to find skilled labour, and also struggle with the competitive nature of imports." "We also invest heavily in research and development," he continues, "especially in terms of our machinery and equipment, we are always trying to do things bigger, better, faster".ĭespite Scott Spiral's decade of success, there are some major challenges for the business, says Barry. "We are currently holding around A$0.5 million in our range of standard components to assist our clients in both quick manufacturing times at an inexpensive cost to them." "We are extremely good at producing the best quality parts available, and this is heavily supported by our ongoing commitment to customer service." "Our key philosophy centres on a dedication to being the best, most reliable and cost effective supplier in the market," says Barry. A constant emphasis on quality, service and price has enabled Scott Spiral to grow its reputation and business significantly nationally and overseas, expanding its operations to include markets in the United States and South East Asia. The company's sales and design warehouse is located in St Mary's, Sydney, and it has a network of distributors in Tasmania, Queensland, Western Australia, and South Australia. Scott Spiral's manufacturing division is located in Dandenong, Victoria. "Our core business is the design, fabrication, manufacture and supply of screw flights to a range of industries, such as bulk handling, chemical, mining, agricultural, digging auger and the piling industry." "Screw flights are used predominantly to dig and to convey material," explains Barry Dorrity, Divisional Manager at Scott Spiral. With 29 employees working from its premises in Victoria and New South Wales, Scott Spiral is now one of Australia's leading manufacturers and suppliers of sectional screw conveyor flights. This hardworking, young, manufacturing company commenced operations in 1994, under the guiding hands of its directors, Scott Kelf and Gregory Bloxham. Its findings will then be taken into account by the Supreme Court. After a decade in business, Scott Spiral has become a market leader in its field, with the help of a dedicated team, a commitment to quality, and XLERPLATE®. The opinion is not binding on the court, which is due to issue its judgement some time next year. The Advocate General also points out that that review must take place before, not after, access to the data. “The Supreme Court will have to ascertain whether that official satisfies the conditions laid down in the case-law relating to the status of ‘independent authority’ and whether it is a ‘third party’ in relation to the authority requesting access,” it says. The legal advisor said that, in addition, access by the competent national authorities to retained data “does not appear to be subject to prior review by a court or an independent authority”, as required by the case-law of the Court, but to the discretion of a police officer of a certain rank. “By permitting, for reasons going beyond those inherent in the protection of national security, the preventive, general and indiscriminate retention of traffic and location data of all subscribers for a period of two years, Irish legislation does not therefore comply with the Directive on privacy and electronic communications.” “Advocate General Campos Sánchez-Bordona reiterates that the general and indiscriminate retention of traffic and location data relating to electronic communications is permitted only in the event of a serious threat to national security,” the opinion states. This morning the Advocate General of the Court, whose legal opinion is generally followed by the judges, stated that the general access of traffic data was only permitted in serious cases of national security – and not serious crime. The Supreme Court referred the issue to the European Court of Justice as a result of an appeal taken by the State against a High Court decision that the legislation used to retain and access mobile phone data in Dwyer’s prosecution breached EU law. “That stuff hurts a lot,” says one Hollywood publicist. And the legendarily cranky Harrison Ford told interviewers he was “in it for the money” and that he read 30 pages of the script before throwing it across the room with the same ferocity he once used to throw punches. But Daniel Craig was reportedly a “pain in the ass” when it came to doing publicity. (Good news for you, James Franco!) Also, nobody cares about Westerns either: “The Coen brothers’ True Grit was an anomaly,” says an agent we spoke to.ĭespite all of the above, C&A was green-lit on the back of the attached talent - but only two things are really expected of pricey names: showing up on set at least marginally sober and, as the release date nears, working the talk show circuit like a hungry comedian. Prior to C&A‘s release, Earth had already been invaded by aliens seven times in 2011 - and mostly to disappointing box-office returns. Which unfortunately means another season in development hell for our dream adaptation of Klarion the Witch Boy. As even the big-ticket heroes stagnate, the mere presence of staple-bound source material isn’t enough anymore. The 2006 graphic novel on which Cowboys & Aliens was based might have registered with Comic-Con attendees, but general audiences didn’t know it from Scott Pilgrim, Kick-Ass, or Jonah Hex, three other little-known comics that were adapted into money-losing movies last year. Outside of the major superhero franchises, recent comic-to-screen adaptations have been hit-or-(mostly)-miss. was originally cast as the lead cowpoke (he bailed to cross-dress in Sherlock Holmes 2), and his strong box-office track record - not to mention his winking, welcome persona - would almost definitely have been able to lift even a leaden film like this one above the white-capped heads of those devil-worshipping Smurfs. The guy hasn’t had a legitimate, non-Indy action hit since Air Force One, a movie that would have celebrated its bar mitzvah last year.) Robert Downey Jr. (Ford’s résumé in particular deserves a harsher reexamination. “But the name is horrible.”ĭaniel Craig and Harrison Ford may seem like box-office draws but let’s be honest: Audiences have not been kind to any of their recent ventures outside of their martini-sipping and fedora-wearing comfort zones. “It’s not quite Shawshank Redemption bad - my top pick for the best movie to be killed by its title,” says a movie producer we spoke to. Heading into opening weekend, tracking polls showed strong interest in C&A - but people may have been anticipating the wrong movie. Virtuoso scowling from Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford proved no match for the absurdity of the concept and the juvenilia of the name C&A’s first trailer incited giggling before screenings of Harry Potter last fall (which put Universal’s marketing chief in the awkward position of having to insist to the New York Times that his movie was actually way less fun than it seemed). And yet, for some head-scratching reason, the picture was conceived as a deadly serious actioner in the vein of Unforgiven and Alien - call it another example of Creeping Nolanism. What Went Wrong? Ten Reasons Cowboys & Aliens Tanked:Ĭowboys & Aliens sounds like a good time - the title implies a delightfully overstuffed romp that mashes together the clichés of two beloved genres with the same cheerful élan of a school-skipping teenager mixing Junior Mints in with his popcorn. We asked an agent, a producer, and a publicist for insight on why C&A bombed so badly - and what the fallout might be for its makers and Hollywood at large. As Harrison Ford scrambles into the nearest refrigerator, we at Grantland are left to wonder just what happened. Despite a premise that fused two once-reliable genres and a cast featuring both Indiana Jones and James Bond, Jon Favreau’s $163 million Cowboys & Aliens got smurfing smurfed at the box office over the weekend, opening to a measly $36.2 million - well below even the modest $45 million its makers had predicted. |
